Standards:

USG-1 The student will demonstrate an understanding of foundational political theory, concepts, and application.

USG-2 The student will demonstrate an understanding of foundational American political principles and the historical events and philosophical ideas that shaped the development and application of these principles.

USG-3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic organization and function of United States government on the national, state, and local levels as outlined in the U.S. Constitution and the role of federalism in addressing distribution of power.

USG -4 The student will demonstrate an understanding of civil rights and liberties, the role of American citizens in the American political system, and distinctive expressions of American political culture.

The purpose of this course is to educate the student in the foundations and functions of American Government at the national, state, and local levels and to instill the student to be a good citizen and an active participant in american democratic society.

Unit 1- States of Existence and Forms of Government

Unit 2- Foundations and Principles of American Government

Unit 3- Legislative Branch

Unit 4- Executive Branch

Unit 5- Judicial Branch

Unit 6- Political Parties, Mass Media, State and Local Government

 

Grading:

Major Assessment: 60% (Quizzes, test, projects)

Minor Assessment: 40% (Warm-ups, classwork, homework)

 

Exam: 20% of Final Grade
