Also, what helps me is to flip around a "backwards" inequality. My brain struggles to make sense of 3<x. Notice that the "munchy mouth" of the inequality is munching on the x. Turn around the inequality so it begins with the x, like this: x ___ 3. Now, insert the inequality so it is still munching on the x, like this: x>3. When you do that, it is easier to see that any number greater than 3 (4, 5, 6, but also 3.1, 3.0001) is a solution.

When the inequality involves negative values, it helps to look at a number line:

You can see that -8 is less than -5 because it is to the left side on the number line. Hope this helps!
