      Rationale: This course will benefit the student in understanding what it is to be an American citizen

      through exploring various topics such as citizenship, American colonial history, the Constitution and

      the Bill of Rights, the 3 Branches of Government, Political Parties, Elections, Public Opinion, State

     and Local Government, Citizenship and the Law, and Basic Economic Concepts

 

First/3rd Quarter

Americans, Citizenship, and Government

The American Colonies and Their Government

The Constitution and Bill of Rights

The Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches

Political Parties, Voting, and Elections

 

2nd/4th Quarter

Public Opinion and Government

State and Local Government

Dealing with Community Issues

Citizens and the Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law

Introduction to Economics and the American Economy

Personal Finance

Grading Weights:

Major Grades: 60% of quarter grade: consists of tests, projects, and other assignments I designate.

Minor grades: 40% of quarter grade: consists if classwork/homework, section quizzes.

Final Grade: Q1=40%, Q2=40%, Exam (E1)=20%

You may exempt the final exam if, and only if, 1. Your F1=at least a 90 and you have missed no more than 3 days during the semester.

5th Block:  Wednesdays 3:50-4:50 or any morning at 7:30 by appointment
