(Note: Astronomy will count as a science credit towards a high school diploma, but does not satisfy CHE college admission requirements. It may be taken alone or paired with another .5 credit science class

This is an introductory, non-lab science course in planetary and stellar astronomy.  Units include the history of astronomy, methods of astronomy, the Earth, the moon, the terrestrial planets and Jovian planets, asteroids and comets, the sun, stars, galaxies, the history of space flight, the physics of space flight, and extraterrestrial life and cosmology.

There are no prerequisites required for this course.
There are no fees associated with this course.
Standard H.E.2: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the structure, properties, and history of the observable universe.

Astronomy textbook, provided by district

pencils/pens/eraser; loose leaf paper; spiral notebook

Grading Policy:

60% of final grade determined by quizzes and major grades, such as lab reports & projects

40% of final grade determined by minor grades such as worksheets, homework and daily work

Turning in work:  Complete all assignments, put your name and date on the paper and turn them in. I have a turn in bin on my desk.

Studying/work habits: Study time is essential to get good grades. 

Canvas: I use Canvas, posting links to assignments, worksheets and quizzes. I assign a lot of daily work and projects.
