JROTC 4 Cadets will apply lessons learned in previous courses to lead JROTC 1, 2, 3 Cadets through their courses.  Cadets will assist the instructor in leading small groups , training basic skills, presenting information, passing information up and down the chain of command, planning and leading physical fitness training and drill, as well as prepare for post secondary education and career. 

Assessment Strategies:

            Be a Leader.  Every cadet in this class has leadership responsibilities.  You must lead and set a good example for others to follow and emulate.  In order to be a good cadet, you must first be a good student.  Unlike other classes, Junior ROTC does not end when the bell rings.  Your behavior, grades, and actions in all other classes and activities will have a direct impact on the performance and morale of the battalion.

                Wear the Uniform.  All cadets will be issued a complete Junior Army ROTC Service Uniform “Blues” and are required to wear it to class on Wednesday of each week as scheduled.  All students are inspected/graded on uniform days.  Proper wear of the cadet uniform builds self-discipline, personal pride, pride in the Warrior Battalion and accounts for 30% of their academic grade (Major Assessment).

                Homework and Quizzes.  Cadets must come to class prepared for the day’s lesson (complete assigned reading/homework.  Quizzes will assess reading comprehension and homework assignments will assess student knowledge gained during discussion during class period.  Combined both will account for 20%of their academic grade (Minor Assessment).   

                Class Participation and Duty Performance.  All Cadets must actively participate in class discussions, demonstrate continuous effort at Physical Fitness Training, and work as a productive member of the staff team.  Cadets must become proficient in their assigned duties and work together to solve problems to coordinate the activities of the Cadet Battalion.  Cadet participation and duty performance accounts for 20%of their academic grade (Minor Assessment) and will be assessed during each class period.

                Projects and Exams.  Cadets will be assigned projects to apply lessons from readings as well as receive regularly scheduled exams to assess learning of key lesson objectives.  Projects and Exams will account for 30% of their academic grade (Major Assessment).  There will be end of semester exam for both semesters, which will account for 20% of each semester’s academic grade.    

Attendance Policy

Student attendance laws require the following days present to receive credit, provided the student receives a passing grade in the course:

In a 90-day course, a student must attend 84 days.

Students missing an assignment in class will have five school days (not class periods) from the date of return to complete the assignment and should make arrangements with the teacher to complete missed assignments. This includes absences incurred due to participation in a school-sponsored activity.

Grading Policy

According to SDOC Policy, the grading scale will be as follows:

A             90-100

B             80-89

C             70-79

D             60-69

F                0-59
