Service Learning 1 & 2

Course Numbers: 379921CW & 379922CW

Service Learning allows students to apply knowledge to life by performing community service.  Students participate in service projects that require preparation, action, reflection and celebration of their contributions/successes under direct adult supervision at the selected service site.

 

There are no prerequisites required for this course.
There are no fees associated with this course.

Students are expected to on their own regularly check course pacing guide (see link here or refer to your service learning portfolio) to stay on top of assignment deadlines. Refer to your assignment explanation (see this link or look in your portfolio) if you aren't sure about a particular assignment - or email Mrs. Moxley with any questions about something that is due. Remember to be proactive and contact Mrs. Moxley if you are having issues meeting a deadline and need an extension for any reason.

READING

Key Ideas and Details

Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.

Integration of Knowledge and Ideas

Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.

 

WRITING and COMMUNICATION

Production and Distribution of Writing

Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

  • Demonstrate mastery of 9th grade CheckmateC skills as appropriate in writing.

    Follow a logical progression of ideas.

    Use consistent verb tense and correct subject-verb agreement.

    Incorporate different sentence types to add voice and develop a personal style in writing.

 

Research to Build and Present Knowledge

Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.

Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism.
