General Music: Music Theory

Beginning music theory is for students who possess a basic knowledge of notation, students who desire to expand their aural and non-aural skills.  Concepts include; scales intervals, chords, Solfedge, transposing, simple part writing, listening, sight singing and dictation.  Students who take this course may enroll in AP Music Theory next semester/year.

 

There are no prerequisites required for this course.
There are no fees associated with this course.

  3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
  4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
  5. Reading and notating music.

  7. Evaluating music and music performances.
  8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
  9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

 

 

      South Carolina Standards for Visual and Performing Arts

  • Standard 1: The student will sing and perform on instruments a variety of music, alone and with others.

 

  • Standard 2: The student will improvise, compose, and arrange music within specified guidelines.

 

  • Standard 3: The student will read and notate music.

 

  • Standard 4: The student will listen to, describe, analyze, and evaluate music and music performances.

 

  • Standard 5: The student will examine and perform music from a variety of historical periods and cultures.
